Habitat for Humanity: Trinity Volunteers Help Build Affordable Housing in Our Community

Habitat St. Johns County, St Augustine, has completed its development in Canopy Oaks. Trinity worked on 4 of the 18 houses in the development. Habitat has also completed 3 separate homes in the West King area, two of which Trinity volunteers also worked on.

As of December 2022 the average home in St Johns County was $450,000, according to Redfin. That is up 25% in one year. For comparison the average price for a home in Jacksonville was $285,000. The price of a Habitat house that the St Augustine Habitat is building range from $200,000 to $240,000 depending on the size of the home. Habitat could not build affordable housing without volunteers like Trinity giving of their time, talent, and treasure. “A Hand Up not a Hand Out”

Habitat is in the process of starting another new multi-home development block called Volusia Woods. It will have 36 homes, and is only a few blocks away from Canopy Oaks. Habitat estimates that it will be December before they will start building in the new development. Therefore, Trinity’s next opportunity to have a volunteer workday will be in early 2024.
I will update everyone as soon as we have a workday.

God Bless! Alex Quintard
